Yen is cleared of UTI

Admitted Yen to NUH for one day on the 23 Nov to do her tests for MCU and DMSA. She had a catheter inserted first thing in the morning and some liquid injected from there to check her bladder and urinary tract. Hb went in with her to do the MCU as mummy was breastfeeding and cannot be exposed to radiation. She was then given another dose of dye through the hand and then sedated after 3 hours. She took a long time to knocked off and slept throughout the procedure. Woke up when she was wheeled back to the ward. Was already 6pm when she was discharged.

Brought Yen back to NUH in the afternoon for review of results on 28 Nov. Dr Chan said that her MCU and DMSA results came back normal. Yay! He said that the chances of getting it again is not higher than other babies who hadn't had it before. So hope Yen doesn't get it again. It's a nightmare!

Leap Frog!

Mummy went window shopping at Isetan. Happened to to see Leap Frog Learning System on offer at $89.90, $10 off the usual price. Decided to buy for Ken. Ouch! He gets a kick 'playing', not learning, with the system. Hope he learns to appreciate his toy, my hard-earned $$$.

Hooked to the computer!

Had recently been surfing this website www.starfall.com with Ken and I was the one who usually controls the mouse. Today(19/11), he just took over and started to control the mouse all by himself. Kids sure do learn fast!

Vivocity

Went to Vivocity ToysRus to hunt for Leap Pad Learning System, since Mummy bought a Thomas the train book with the cartridge from Changi Airport. Had breakfast of yam cake and Daddy had his coffee from the Toast Box. Ken was very happy and enjoyed the yam cake and looking at a Taka toy promotion booklet. We had a quick lunch of wuxiang with beehoon, fried dumplings and lime drink. First time Ken used chopsticks to eat. Had an enjoyable morning.

Vietnam trip

Came back from my trip to Vietnam (14 to 16 Nov). Left Yen and helper with mil. She was crying the first few hours she was left there. Luckily Daddy stayed with her till she slept. Refused to left Ah ma carry, although she did laugh when Ah ma played with her. She stopped crying on the second day but still refused to let Ah ma carry her. On the third day, Daddy brought the family to fetch mummy at the airport. Was with Sandi inside while the kids were outside. She helped us to take the family picture. Had McDonalds before going home.

Insect Bite! Ouch!

Just came back from my Vietnam trip on Friday and brought Ken Lin to fetch Gong2 for dinner on Sunday. The car door was left open and that night, Ken Lin started to scratch himself all over. Seemed like mosquito bites but it swelled up just after one and a half days. Even had fever. Quickly brought him to Dr Lye and he insists on Ken taking antibiotics. He said most likely it's an insect bite. So now, he's sleeping like a pig after kicking a big fuss the whole night. Oh well, so both kids ARE now on antibiotics. Pray they get well soon!

Camping at NUH

The next morning, woke up by the doctor and was shocked to see that she was my former classmate Dr Chew! What a surprise. Seems like we always meet at unpleasant times! It was one year ago I last saw her and that was because Ken had been admitted for fever induced febrile convulsions. She said that most likely Yen was shivering and not fits. I should think so, otherwise, Yen would have bitten me while I latched her on the night before. Sample of blood and urine was extracted from Yen. Took me 3 times to collect her urine sample. Whoo! The results came back that she had over 1000 white blood cells in her urine when it should have been less than 5. She had urinary tract infection. That day, the housemen and MO tried to put the plug for the antibiotics drip for her but couldn't because she was too chubby for them to find the vein. Had to call in Dr Tang to do it for her. Felt very pained to her crying for the whole morning. She was very cranky for the next few days and I didn't sleep well at all. Thankfully, at Dr Chew's suggestion, I managed to have a cot bed and could sleep beside her at night. Was only Tuesday that her fever went down. Dr Terence came and Yen really liked him a lot. She initiated making funny noises at him. So funny, and he picked her up to carry her. On Wednesday and Thursday, Yen's mood became better and she was really cooperative on Thursday morning when the nurses had to collect her urine bag. Mummy urged her to urine and she did! Ohh.... really made my day. All in all, she stayed from 4/11/07 to 8/11/07. However, there will be MCU and DMSA that she has to go for and not forgetting another 19 days of oral antibiotics! Mummy is really stressed!

Yen Turns Blue!

It was Saturday midnite, early Sunday morning when I was woken up by Yen's cries. I thought it was still a bit early for milk but nonetheless, woke my hubby up to carry Yen while I get the milk bottle. Passed him the bottle but she continued crying, so I switched on the light to take her temperature. 35.8 deg cel, no fever but why is she not drinking? So I took over the baby and felt that she was a bit stiff. So I took a closer look and realied that she had turned blue and was all curled up in foetal position. Told my hubby but he said she's alright. He took a look at her lips and hands and it was all purplish blue! I said 'Quick! Call the ambulance.' He called the ambulance and we went downstairs with the baby and I started to latch her and massage her at her legs and hands and kept talking to her. It was a harrowing moment for me. Seems ages for the ambulance to arrive and when it did, I quickly ran up the ambulance. During the journey NUH, she started to relax and was much better when we arrived at NUH. She was quickly separated from me while I went to register her for admission. I was in homeclothes and didn't have her birth certificate with me, not even my hp. The MO then asked for my account and then a while later, I saw Yen and she seemed fine. KH had arrived to NUH by car then. Oral medication was given to Yen but she vomitted and so was given the suppository and after that admitted to Ward 48 Bed 7. KH went home to rest while I stayed to breastfeed and take care of her.

Fever

Yen has a fever when Daddy Pey took her temperature this afternoon. Actually, she has been feverish lately but I thought it was the jab but today, the temperature went as high up as 38.7 deg and that got us worried. Mummy felt guilty for going for a karaoke session with her colleagues yesterday after farewell lunch and leaving the baby with the helper. Then Daddy said that she could be teething, which probably explains why she had the fever. I really hope so, because I couldn't help wondering if the helper had done something to her and not let us know. Oh well, how not to feel this way... today, there's a report about an 8 month old baby boy who died due to choking. He was fed lying down on the mattress. Goodness me. I pray hard my baby will be safe and sound while I'm at work!

Jabbed!

Brought Yen for her 5 month 6-in-1 jab today at Dr Lye's. As soon as Yen was jabbed on her upper left thigh, I started to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the doctor joined in too by using his liquid paper as a rattle. Little Yen just looked at him and then started to babble. How funny! Glad I'm done with the compulsory jabs for now and the next compulsory jab will be at 15 months, so that's August 2008. Already feeling the pinch of spending so much money on their immunisation. Paid $104 for her jab today.

Ken at 4 months

Ken at 4 months. Taken on 8 Jan 2005. Both kids shaved botak at 1 mth but seems like Ken's hair grows evenly. Until now, Yen's hair growth is fastest in the middle and slow at the sides. How I wish it will grow faster!

Yen at 4 months

Took Yen for her 4 mth studio shot on the 21st Sep and we tried to dress her up nicely, like a girl. She was in a cranky mood and it was really difficult to capture her all smiley. So the photographer snapped one of her crying while in prone position. Really funny!

I deserve a treat!

Pictures show Kee Yen doing her flip and rewarding herself by sucking her thumb. Hee!

KY flips on 9th September!

Yes, it's 4th October and I've been too busy with work to update. Students start exam today and I finally have time for a breather. Kee Yen did her first flip on her own, using her right arm strength and flipped to her left. Had some difficulty initially but very soon, she could pull out her right hand. Much faster than Ken Lin, I must say. But come to think of it, both did their first flip exactly 6 days before they turned 4 months. The naked pic shows KL who flipped to the left. So it should be the case that Kee Yen is also right-handed.

Birthday Celebration

After breakfast, we went by cab to the last day of the seminar and proceeded to hotel for nap time. Dad sneaked out to buy lunch which is spaghetti and wings. We then went out for dinner at Secret Recipe's to have a gd meal. Had a takeaway brownie and a chocolate cake for his birthday back in the hotel room. We hoped he had a great time. Yes, he probably did looking at the way he enjoyed the cakes!

Day 4 KL's Birthday!

Haven't had the time to update for a number of days because Mummy just went back to work and has been busy marking papers. Finally, she cleared them and is back to update the blog.

26 Aug 2007. KL's 3rd birthday. We bought him a Thomas the train remote controlled toy from Isetan Scotts and gave it to him in the morning. He's very happy. Only thing is that Mummy forgot about the screwdriver to insert the batteries and we had to go to a photoshop to borrow one for him. Before that, he was improvising his own way of playing with it and we were worried that it will be spoilt in no time. Soon, Yen woke up and joined us in the photo-taking. That's a real challenge!

Day 3 Twin Towers

25 Aug Sat. We took a cab to KLCC after breakfast. The taxi driver was really friendly and recommended us to go to the underwater aquarium. We took some pictures at the fountain and proceeded to shop at KLCC. We only bought 2 donuts and some fish oil. There were the branded boutiques and Mummy enjoyed the window shopping. After lunch, made our way back by cab. The ride costs RM$10. Then went to collect our spectacles but were told to go back in 5 minutes, so we went Baskin Robins for ice-cream. Back in hotel, the kids had their nap while Daddy went off for seminar. Mummy then brought the kids to Borders and tapaoed dinner back to hotel. Yen was crying a lot and no amount of rocking could appease her. She cried until she fell asleep.

Day 2 Menara Tower

24 August 2007, Friday. We went to recce the station nearest to Menara MGRM and then took the train to Menara Tower where there was a festival for parachuters. We took a cab nearby, where Hard Rock Hotel is, to the tower. Had our lunch there and Ken Lin was so excited to see the parachutes. Went back for nap and then had dinner before Daddy left for the seminar in the evening. Ken Lin kept himself occupied by doing some coloring. Daddy bought home an ice-cream for Mummy as a reward for taking care of the kids :)

KL, here we come! Day 1

Daddy had a seminar to attend in Msia and we decided to bring the whole family, including the maid to Kuala Lumpur. We had also invited Ah Ma to come with us but thanks to Ah Gong who came down with dengue fever and was hospitalised, so she couldn't join us last minute. On 23 Aug (Thu) at around 9am, we boarded a coach from Boon Lay to 2nd link and reached Berjaya Times Square at around 3pm in the afternoon. Ken Lin slept soundly on the coach. Upon arrival, we checked in and went out to get a new pair of spectacles for both Daddy and Mummy. Had Japanese dinner and went Cosmos World for kiddy rides.

Grilles....

Have always resisted installing grilles for our windows.... kind of uglifies the house and gives the feeling of being in jail. However, for the sake of the two kids and the constant nagging of family members and colleagues, we finally fitted grilles on 6 July 2007 and parted with $1.2k. Thanks to the maid who helped clear the toys by the window and curtains, I could take a decent picture. Left Kee Yen to our diagonal neighbour who was also on maternity leave. Thankfully, Kee Yen slept throughout the 2.5 hrs at Auntie Peifeng's place.

Happy 3rd Birthday!

Ken Lin's 3 years old! How time flies! Daddy and Mummy brought a Thomas the Train cake, ordered from Polar Cakes, to school on 22th August(Thursday) to celebrate his birthday. The children had just woken up from nap and were still in a 'zombie-like' state, including Ken Lin. We took a few photos of him with his classmates for this special occasion. He enjoyed arranging the candles all by himself, blowing the candles and cutting the cake :)

Head's Up!

Ken Lin had his first try with lifting up his head at about 2 months. Strangely, I wasn't as enthusiastic about putting Kee Yen on her tummy for long till about one afternoon, I decided to try and she did lift her head, surprisingly, pretty steadily at about 3 mths!

Sarong!

To use or not to use? I had not wanted to put bb in sarong lest he became to dependent on it but on my mil's insistence, I decided to let Ken Lin try it out after he was slightly over 1 month old. Her theory was that the head would be more rounded and that bb would sleep better. Did the same for Kee Yen too when she was about 2 mths old. Picture on left is Ken Lin, on the right is Kee Yen.

1st Haircut

Ken Lin had his first haircut on 10 Nov 2004 at J's saloon and mummy held him as his hair was shaved away. Collected a few strands of his hair as keepsake. For Kee Yen, she had hers done at taimaobi at United Square on 17 June 2007, after a studio session at Pix n Portraits. Both of them didn' know what was happening and didn't cry at all!

Full Month!

Ken Lin's full month was held on 26 Sep 2004 and Kee Yen's 10 June 2007(Sunday lunch). We ordered both their cakes from Prima Deli. Loved their chocolate and blueberry filling cake. Yummy!

Jaundice

Remembered sending Ken Lin for jaundice test at the polyclinic once and luckily his level wasn't that high to be sent for phototherapy. As for Kee Yen, she had a bit of breastfeeding jaundice and we just left her under the sunlight for about 2 wks or so.

The Birth Process

For Ken Lin:
I remember I started pre-maternity on 23 Aug(Mon) and went for my check up at 9 am on 26 Aug 2004 (Thursday), the day of EDD. Dr Lai said that the baby would probably arrive that evening or night and told me to go home and rest. The contractions was detected to be 8 min apart then. But I couldn't feel any pain at all! Decided to go for a walk at nearby Tanglin Mall and was having lunch at Delifrance when I felt really tired. Took a cab home and laid in bed resting and started to feel weird. The contractions became really bad at 2 pm and decided to call my husband to fetch me to the hospital. At about 3pm, we arrived at the hospital and was pushed to the delivery suite. I took the gas and about 4+ pm, Dr Lai came to see me and said I could go for epi if i wanted. I decided to bear with the pain as I was afraid of paralysis, though the risk was very low. At about 6pm, he came again. The baby was detected to be in op position. In other words, he was head down but facing up. When I knew about it, I kind of panicked and requested for pethidine and it was about 6.20 pm when the midwife administered the jab. However, I already felt the urge to push. Dr Lai counted to 10 while I was told not to arch my back and to close my mouth and channel my energy to pushing the baby. The baby's head could be seen but it went in again and I tried a few times and by 7.05pm, the baby was out! Was sewn up by around 7.45pm. Bled quite a bit and the midwife asked me to keep massaging my uterus to stop the bleeding. Was around 9pm when I was pushed to room 638.

For Kee Yen:
I felt the urge to go to the washroom at about 5+ am on the 15 May 2007(Tuesday), went about 3 times in total, I guess. As time progresses, I felt the contractions become more intense and started timing; quickly got my husband to send my boy to childcare and called the gynae at about 8am who advised I go to the hospital. Contractions was about 4-5 min then. We quickly made our way to Gleneagles via Dunearn Road and the road along Botanical Gardens. Was raining that morning and was already past 9am when we arrived at the hospital entrance. Kinhock ran down the car shouting 'my wife is in labour!' It was so comical that I started laughing! I was quickly pushed to the delivery ward and I was told to urine and change into the hospital gown. That morning was a busy time for the nurses and it was only about 10+ am the fili midwife came and she checked me down there a few times and broke my waterbag! From then, the contractions came fast and furious and I was hoping for my gynae to come quickly or he wouldn't be able to be on time for the baby's arrival! I guess it was around 11.15am or so that he finally came and he started to ask me to push and said that I was doing fine... I could feel the pain below there and couldn't stop shouting this time! There wasn't episiotomy done on me this time and I guess the tearing was painful. I could even feel the stitching more painful than the first experience! However, the baby came out within 5 pushes. The dr took quite a while to stitch me. Think he finished around 12+pm. I was under observation to check if I had bled excessively given the first-time experience. Luckily, I was better this time round. About 1.30pm, I was pushed to room 507.

Born!

Ok, so these are the two kids when they were born. Ken Lin was born 3.64 kg at 7.05pm and Kee Yen was born 3.46 kg at 11.32 am at Gleneagles Hospital. Both babies were delivered by Dr FM Lai. The pictures were taken when they were 1 week old.
